About

Luna Luna is an indie quartet composed of Kavvi Gonzalez (vocals/guitar), Danny Bonilla (vocals/keys), Kaylin Martinez (drums), and Ryan "Gordo" Gordon (bass/backup vocals). By means of a savvy marketing strategy and a stellar retro sound, Luna Luna is a band on its way to national recognition. Their success, beyond their business and musical skills can be attributed to another significant factor: they appeal to a very prolific niche audience.

Originally the brain-child of Colombian born, Texas raised Kavvi Gonzalez, the band draws inspiration from their collective Latin-American roots.Their bilingual approach to songwriting allows them to effortlessly connect with listeners who resonate with both Spanish speaking and English speaking cultures. Furthermore, as Kavvi explained to the Mix during our time together at the SXSW music festival earlier this year, their lyrics based content has been fundamental in establishing this deep connection with their core demographic of listeners.

Beyond their success in identifying their target market, the members of Luna Luna have also demonstrated commendable music business prowess in other areas. In an upcoming Mix podcast interview, Kavvi explains how through a bold and strategic use of social media Luna Luna was able to find their management team, build a dedicated audience of 94K followers on TikTok, and even secure brand sponsorships with companies such as Jack Daniels and Alvie’s boots.

What is a given is that the music that they make has widespread appeal and has actually come with some reputable acclaim from tastemaking publications such as PEOPLE, NPR, OFFICE, Paper, FLOOD, Earmilk, and REMEZCLA. The band's songs even found their way onto some of the biggest editorial playlists such as Spotify's New Music Friday, Clash, and Latin X Rising. As they venture into 2023, Luna Luna's potential for a breakout year has been recognized by Rolling Stone, naming them one of the Latin Bands to Break Big in 2023.

The Music

Starting their musical journey in 2018 with their breakout album “For Lovers Only” Luna Luna’s captivating live performances have taken them from performing at intimate house parties across Texas to prestigious venues like the historic Ford Theater in LA. Their lyrical themes (much like their music) are dreamy and nostalgic, exploring the concepts of young love, friendship, and in their 2021 album “Flower Moon” looking to nature for guidance and direction.

Harking back to Luna Luna’s unique ability to connect with a bilingual, bicultural demographic, their recent releases such as “Talk Too Much” and “Solo Tu '' contain lyrics in both Spanish and English. Their lyrical approach and ability to transcend language barriers has earned them coveted opportunities which is why we expect big things from this group.
