At Musixmatch, we can’t resist a good origin story, especially one with such intriguing twists and turns as this months artist spotlight! Our feature this month is an artist who demonstrates how the "dream" of the music industry can be fulfilled. They represent that leap of faith, that against all odds can make the most incredible things happen in the music business.

Meet Yadam —  the tri-lingual, multicultural star in the making who just released the first single from his upcoming debut album “BELAMOR”.

Increasingly hailed the Latin “Sam Smith”, Yadam, who was raised between Venezuela and the US, immigrated to France at just at 18 after winning a free flight from a singing competition in Venezuela. The move was pivotal for Yadam, not only to further his career, but also to escape an increasingly difficult sociopolitical - socioeconomic situation and homophobic prejudice.

Soon after coming to France, Yadam participated in a popular French singing competition called “Nouvelle Star” and after bringing both judges and audience members to tears with his heartfelt performances, he began writing and composing his own music.

His first EP “SAFEPLACE” came out at the end of February 2020 just as the pandemic started, introducing the world to his specific blend of melancholy, pop, and alternative soul, characterized by whimsy-filled story-telling.

Otras Mujeres”, the first single from BELAMOR, was written with Sam Dixon, known for his work with Adele, Sia, and Christina Aguilera, among others. The single also marks Sam’s first collaboration with an emerging Latin artist.

Inspired by Yadam’s own tumultuous experience of falling in love with a boy for the first time and being asked to conceal his romance because of societal expectations in home country, Yadam wants this chronicle of love, longing, and learning to help “chicxs like me to take the power of who they love and how they are loved back into their hands.”
